Reasons to See the Counselor
- Worried about something (school, family, friendships)
- Want help making choices or solving a problem
- Having trouble with another kid or adult
- Need help focusing in class
- Big changes in student's life
- Saw somebody getting hurt
- Somebody is hurting student
- Student feels like hurting self or others
- Share good news and accomplishments
How Do I See the Counselor?
- Students: Ask a teacher, adult, or parent
- Parents/Guardians: Call or email to set an appointment
Counselors Do...
- Help students help themselves
- Guide students and parents to find resources when they have a need at school or home
- Teach students how to cope with life and be their best self
- Help students stay safe
- Care about everyone
Counselors Don't...
- Judge anyone
- Discipline/Punish students
Confidentiality
Everything a student says to the school counselor is confidential UNLESS:
- Someone is hurting the student
- The student wants to hurt someone else
- The student wants to hurt self
Social Emotional Support
Classroom Counseling Lessons
Classroom counseling lessons are provided multiple times throughout the school year. The lessons cover different topics, such as goal setting, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, and positive relationships.
All students receive classroom counseling lessons.
Small Group Counseling
Small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills. The sessions are during school hours.
Students can be referred to small group counseling by teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians.
Individual Counseling
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges.
Students can be referred by teachers, administrators, and parents/guardians.
